Ballymun Educational Support Team
BEST supports children and young people across Ballymun to participate and engage fully within their educational journey. Through our work we create a climate which stimulates interest and supports the participation of young people (aged 4-18) with a view to enhancing their educational experience – supporting the development of personal, social and emotional skills – while also supporting them to reach their potential, in education and beyond.
What Do We Do?
BEST has a clear child-centred approach as the core of its ethos. The focus of our work is delivering tailored support to children and young people in and out of school, at primary and post-primary level, who present with complex needs.
These needs stem from multiple factors impacting the community including intergenerational trauma, mental health, drug use, violence, poverty and the resulting experiences of living in cyces of crisis.
We support targeted children and their families in eight schools in the Ballymun area with the following services
School Supports
Targeted intervention to children and young people with significant support needs who have been identified through the SCP Intake framework.
Out of School Supports
Highly targeted intervention to Out-Of-School young people and their families with complex needs.
Programmes
Evidence based informed intervention at a universal level to the whole class / whole school group.
How Do We Do It?
Mission
BEST identifies, develops and delivers a broad range of individualised supports to young people in Ballymun, particularly those experiencing educational disadvantage, to support them to establish a healthy footing in society.
Values
Best practice is the foundation, the fundamental focus on excellence in the provision of holistic person-centered, innovative work methods and approaches.
Engagement is the process, the core belief that effective practice has authentic and compassionate relationship building at its centre.
Support is the focus, the key understanding that the provision of safety, security and stability – physical, psychological and emothional – forms the basis for personal development and growth.
Transformation is the goal, the respectful acknowledgement that every young person possesses their own individual resilience, skills and talents and can be empowered to be change agents in their lives.
Vision
BEST envisions a community where each young person is nurtured, seen and supported to achieve their full potential in all areas of life.

We are committed to supporting young people within the Ballymun Community
